THE ARCH

FLORIDA MEMORIAL COLLEGE

St. Augustine, Florida
Volume 14 « qoq

Wwr - '••*<# .

Dr. Edward Graham and Mr. Raymond Burr of FMC's Board of Trustees inspect construction
of the new campus in Miami — Library Building.

The Alma Mater

As the breeze through moss-hung trees
Seems to sing thy sacred name,
Thy sons and daughters love to spread
O'er all the land thy well-earned fame!

We love thy halls, coquina walls
And thy friends who gave thee birth.
The truth we learned as each heart yearned
For higher, nobler things on earth!

Should future years bring joy or tears.
To thy name we'll e'er be true,
To thee we pledge our loyalty
And dedicate our lives to you!

Chorus

Florida Memorial! Florida Memorial!

How we love to sing thy praise.

We'll be loyal, ever loyal,

And for thee our voices raise.

Goodbye — Hello

As the College's advertisements in Time and The New
Yorker have said, "It's taken us 75 years ..." but we
are now ready to move from the sleepy backwaters in-
to the mainstream. Those of us who have known it
will miss the old campus in St. Augustine with its
quiet shadows under the moss-hung oaks, the warm sun
baking the familiar coquina walls. And those students
who have never known the old campus will miss it
in some ways too, though they may never realize it,
for we will of necessity leave much that is good and
honored behind when we move. Still, our hopes are
for the future and the splendid new home of FMC
in Miami. So, gratitude and pride for the past, expec-
tation and trust for the future. Here's to a bright to-

morrow!

ERONIF WILLIAMS

Spring 1968

Lambda Iota Tau, International Honor Society for Students of Literature
was established in 1953 at Michigan State University. Today there are
chapters in this country, Canada, and Japan, all of them devoted to the
"recognition and promotion of excellence in the study of literature." The
letters Lambda Iota Tau stand for the motto of the society, Logos Idean
Telei. "The Word Gives Form to the Idea." The insignia consists of two
crossed quills over a shield, on which is a gold bend sinister with the Greek
letters, L.I.T. ; in the upper portion of the shield a gold torch of learning;
in the lower portion a gold chain of fraternal unity; under the shield is the
motto. The official colors are purple and gold, for the magnificence of
literature and Keats' "realms of gold" into which it takes us. Candidates of
Alpha Omega Chapter must have completed four semesters, have a cumu-
lative average of 3.0 and 3.5 average in at least twelve hours of literature..
Besides this they must submit a critical paper on a work of literature. Alpha
Omega Chapter was installed on October 29, 1964.
